The Degenerettes CD release of their new album: Philosopher Queens
with Saddle of Centaur, Schwervon! and Snacks
$7 at the door, includes CD
Come wish bon voyage to Chrissy!

The Degenerettes second studio album, Philosopher Queens, is a lofi pop fuzz anthology with nods to blues, new wave, and early punk. Philosopher Queens combines jangly guitar, super-charged melodic bass, sweet harmonies, old school pop hooks, and Rahne’s literary song style into 11 tiny narrative universes. Like a collection of short stories, the album chronicles the deeds of heroic friends, mad scientists, and philosopher queens. The songs also tribute some of the greatest degenerettes of the 20th century: Gertrude Stein, Amber Hollibaugh, Candy Darling and Baltimore’s first lesbian rockabilly band, The Roc-a-Jets. Recorded (on tape) and mixed by Rob Girardi at Lord Baltimore and mastered by Steven Berson at Total Sonic Media (Brooklyn, NY). The CD release party is also a going-away party for bassist Chrissy Howland, who is moving to Europe later this winter. Chrissy joined the band in the summer of 2007, about a month before we set off on a three-week tour and then came right home to record our first record, Bad Girls Go To Hell. We hit the ground running and were off on a fantastic 5-year collaboration which included being part of Riot Acts, a feature-length doc about trans musicians, several collaborations with The Miss America Puppet Show, two records, and countless great shows. Chrissy’s contribution to the Degenerettes sound is beyond measure. Tonight we toast our collaboration, bid Chrissy bon voyage, and celebrate the new CD with some of our favorite bands and our friends!
